With the hot summer months fast approaching, the first and most important step toward optimal air conditioning performance is a thorough inspection of the system and units. In this first step, we look for any apparent signs of aging, wear, or damage; check all essential components for cleanliness; and clear away any obstructions in the path of the airflow. This visual inspection not only helps us catch and resolve any problems that might cause a breakdown of the system during the hottest parts of summer but also ensures that the system is operating as efficiently as possible. Contrary to what some people might think, there is more to air conditioning than just temperature control. If a system can’t deliver the cooled air effectively (to say nothing of the way the unit itself might have an effect on indoor air quality), then the logical conclusion is that it isn’t “working” at all, even if it seems to be energized and running.
The cornerstone of our summer air conditioning preparation strategy is regular maintenance. We work to keep your A/C system running smoothly, even if it seems to be working well now. This regular maintenance includes cleaning, and even if "cleaning" evokes thoughts of some scrub brush or a can of compressed air, the real way to optimize the performance of an A/C system—if there is such a thing as an "A/C system tune-up"—is to ensure that the refrigerants are at the right levels, the structure isn't too leaky, and there are no strange or dangerous blockages anywhere that fails to maximize the efficiency of the unit. Still, we're not so crabby that we won't just tell you to "clean it." When you can see the dirt, it is too late! Don't be a crab! Clean your A/C system!
At HVAC Las Vegas, when we prep summer AC systems for clients, we think client education is an indispensable part of our work. We want our clients to understand that the better educated they are, the better decisions they can make regarding their air conditioning systems. We want them to understand that there are things they can do between our maintenance visits and even between calls for emergencies that will make a huge difference in the reliability, effectiveness, and efficiency of their air conditioning systems. Those are the kinds of things we talk about ad nauseam during prep season, but they are important. What we also talk about, and what is maybe more interesting, is how to use the systems effectively and efficiently in ways that maximize comfort and minimize straining the systems themselves. That’s a big focus part of our prep work.
